1,200 miles solo from La Trinité: the Class40 returns to its roots
At the end of April 2026, around thirty Class40s will set off from La Trinité-sur-Mer for a 1,200-nautical-mile loop sailed singlehanded. Behind that figure — nearly 2,200 km covered alone on board — La Trin' 40 stands as one of the most demanding tests of the early season.
The initiative is jointly led by the Société Nautique de La Trinité-sur-Mer (SNT) and the Class40 association. Each has its role: the SNT handles race management and on-water organization, while the Class40 takes care of shoreside events and communications. A logical partnership when you consider that La Trinité remains the historic birthplace of these 40-foot monohulls, with the proximity of yards like JPS Production and Multiplast in Vannes.
A course built for endurance
The route starts from the Bay of Quiberon and returns there. In between: 1,200 miles of sailing that will demand tactical versatility and mechanical solidity.
- Start: La Trinité-sur-Mer, April 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM
- Finish: La Trinité-sur-Mer
- Format: singlehanded
- Expected fleet: around thirty skippers
For boats just emerging from winter refit yards, the timing is surgical. Skippers will have a few days on site — boats expected to arrive from April 20 — before the starting gun.
A full-scale laboratory, with no ranking pressure
A detail that changes everything: La Trin' 40 carries a coefficient of 0 in the Class40 championship. No points at stake. On paper, it could look like a second-tier race. In reality, it's exactly the opposite.
Without the accounting pressure of the overall standings, the race becomes a strategic testing ground. At the end of April, every team needs concrete answers:
- Do the technical modifications from winter hold up over 1,200 miles?
- Does the skipper recover their reflexes in long-distance singlehanded sailing?
- Where does the boat sit against direct competitors?
That's what explains the enthusiasm: around thirty racers expected makes for a dense fleet for a non-championship race. The Class40 demonstrates its vitality here — and La Trinité, its pulling power.
The tight event schedule
The organization has condensed the program to about ten days, between the fleet's arrival and the prize-giving.

La Trinité, unofficial capital of the Class40
Since the class was created in 2004, La Trinité-sur-Mer has continually strengthened its bond with the 40-footers. The presence of boatyards, the quality of the Brittany sailing waters, the SNT's expertise in organizing offshore races: everything converges.
With La Trin' 40, the Morbihan port isn't just hosting a race. It's reaffirming its status as the natural home port for a class that keeps on growing.
